Jennifer Love Hewitt is going to get more than just Christmas gifts this holiday season.
“The Client List” actress, 34, told ABC News last night at a Pampers event in New York City that she is due in December.
If that wasn’t a big enough gift, the birth of Hewitt’s baby will come with another big surprise – the gender of the child. “I don’t know,” she said of whether it’s a boy or a girl. “It’s one of life’s greatest surprises and we wanted to keep it that way.”
The biggest transition for Hewitt, who announced her pregnancy and engagement to “Client List” co-star Brian Hallisay in June, is that she’s amazed by the changes to her body.
“You wake up in the morning and you go, “Wow, this is no longer my body,” she said. “What’s going to happen today? It teaches you to not be in control and I’ve been a control freak for a long time.”
She’s also suddenly a sweets person.
“I like cake all of the sudden,” the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” star said. “I never was a cake person.”
Hewitt said her and Hallisay are just so excited to meet their baby and that they are definitely waiting until after the birth to start the wedding plans.
“Yeah, let’s tackle one big life thing at a time,” she added.

Pregnancy is the perfect opportunity to indulge a sweet tooth — and Jennifer Love Hewitt isn’t holding back.
“Cupcakes seem to be a thing, but that’s always been a thing,” the mom-to-be told PEOPLE during the Mickey Through the Decades Collection launch event in Burbank, Calif. on Saturday.
“I want to blame it on pregnancy, but it’s really always been my favorite. Now, I have the ability to eat three instead of one, which is nice.”
To balance out the batches of baked goods, Hewitt, 34, has continued her almost-daily workout regimen. The exercise, she says, isn’t just about staying in shape.
“I’m doing yoga and cardio and all of that stuff, so it’s been good,” Hewitt shares. “I think it’s been making a big difference in how I feel, too.”
As Hewitt and her fiancé Brian Hallisay anticipate the arrival of their first child this fall, the expectant actress is “taking time off” to enjoy both her engagement and pending parenthood. “I’m still waiting to hear what happens with [my show] Client List,” she adds.
Interviews
It’s been years since she starred in ’90s staple Can’t Hardly Wait, and Jennifer Love Hewitt tells Us Weekly that she’s learned a thing or two about patience in that time. The first-time mom, 34, explains that she’s having a smooth pregnancy so far because she’s choosing not to stress about the unknown.
“I think most people, when they’re getting ready to be a mom, they go, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to have all of the answers right now,’ but every kid is different, every parent is different and every child and parent relationship is different, so you just sort of have to wait until you’re in it and do the best that you can to try to be Zen in the middle of it all,” Hewitt told Us at Old Navy’s “Mickey Through the Decades Collection” launch in Burbank, Calif. on Saturday, July 13.
Hewitt, who is expecting her first child with Client List costar Brian Hallisay, rocked a grey Mickey Mouse tank top and dark jeans at the Disney and Old Navy event.
The expectant mother shared her secrets to a stress-free pregnancy, telling Us that she is working with a trainer on a regimen that includes yoga and pilates, as well as “cardio and weights so my arms are strong to hold the baby.”
And, Hewitt tells Us, the couple is opting to keep an element of surprise around the baby’s birth (she and Hallisay don’t know the gender of the baby).
“You sort of have these pictures in your mind of what [the baby’s going to look like],” she said. “I’m really excited to see what he or she is going to look like!”
Us Weekly exclusively broke the news of the actress’ pregnancy in early June. Hewitt and Hallisay began dating 16 months ago when they reconnected on the set of their hit Lifetime show after previously appearing together on the short-lived NBC series Love Bites.
“I’m off work for the moment, for the summer,” she told Us of getting some rest during her pregnancy. “It’s a really happy, positive time, which I’m grateful for.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt quit Twitter on Wednesday, citing “negativity” and “threats” on the popular social media platform.
The actress had last tweeted on Monday, and it’s not clear what specific messages led to her decision.
“Unfortunately with all the negativity people choose to send on twitter as well as threats to there (sic) own well being. I’m sad to say twitter is no longer for me,” she wrote on Wednesday.
“The Client List” star added, “I have enjoyed all the kindness and love that came my way, as well as support. But this break is needed.”
“Life should be filled with positivity and holding each other up, not making threats and sending bad vibes. To those of you who made it a joy… thank you from the bottom of my heart,” concluded Hewitt.
And like that, she was gone.
News TV Shows
Last night marked the second-season finale of Lifetime‘s drama series The Client List. Last year, the network renewed the show a month into its freshman run, upping the order from 10 to 15 for Season 2. This time around, the show had a quieter run despite the recent flurry of publicity surrounding star Jennifer Love Hewitt‘s pregnancy announcement. Last night’s finale pulled 2 million viewers, down from the 2.7 million who watched the Season 1 closer.
Still, I hear the ratings dropoff is not the reason for the holdup and the main issue factoring in Lifetime’s decision whether to order a third season. The network and the series producers are figuring out how to deal with Hewitt’s pregnancy creatively and logistically. (Hewitt announced two weeks ago that she was three months along.) I hear a major sticking point has been demands from Hewitt, who serves as an executive producer on the series, about the storyline for Season 3. I hear Hewitt has asked that Brian Hallisay, her real-life fiance and father of her baby, also play her character Riley’s baby daddy on the show in a major story arc next season. I hear that is at odds with the ideas from the Client List showrunner, who I hear pitched the series’ male lead Colin Egglesfield, and the network brass, who I hear have not settled on a character as they are looking to keep their options open but are not willing to go with Hallisay, who I hear doesn’t have wide support there. Hallisay started on the show as a recurring and subsequently was promoted to a regular with Hewitt’s backing.I hear the two sides are currently at an impasse, leading to the delay in the Season 3 decision. I also hear both sides appear willing to walk away, though sources stress a compromise is reachable. “There are many story lines we are exploring,” a rep for Hewitt said. “So any suggestion that we are not doing our best to develop a great season is simply not accurate.”
