Jennifer Love Hewitt loves being a mom!
Autumn’s mommy stopped by E! News and couldn’t help but gush about motherhood. “I just feel like my heart expanded quadruple and every time I look at her, I just melt. It’s great. And I get no sleep which is also fun,” she tells us.
Husband Brian Hallisay seems to be getting the hang of fatherhood, too. “He’s great, he handles it great. He looks at me sometimes like I’m a crazy person, especially right in the beginning when we got home with her, he was like, ‘You look a little crazy.’ I’m like, ‘All right, we’ll talk about it later,’ ” JLH joked.
Along with expanding her heart, going through pregnancy and having her first child inspired the actress to launch a maternity clothing line!
“Well for me it’s a time in your life when you want to feel really beautiful and it’s a struggle sometimes because you’re expanding and you’re changing and your hormones are all over the place,” the star says of her Pea in the Pod line L by Jennifer Love Hewitt, “so comfort was a big thing for me, and I really wanted to—as a woman—make other women feel beautiful and special in their clothes.”

With a new baby and a new husband, it was a busy winter for Jennifer Love Hewitt. But the mom of now 4-month-old Autumn James couldn’t be happier about her new roles.
“Those first couple of nights, it was wild,” the actress, 35, told PEOPLE at the launch of her maternity line for A Pea in the Pod on Tuesday in Beverly Hills.
“When they let us bring her home I said to [husband, actor Brian Hallisay], ‘To get your license you have to take a test. They check to make sure you’re a good human being to get behind the wheel of a car. They’ve given us no test! We just had a baby and now we’re going home.’ He was like, ‘I know, it’s terrifying!’”
Thankfully, Dad is up for the challenge. “He’s fantastic. He’s great at diaper changing and at the football hold, which she loves,” says Hewitt.
“It’s really 50-50. I feel very lucky that way! I do the stuff that I need to do as a mom and he does the dad part.”
Aside from his amazing fatherhood skills, Hallisay, 35, was a powerhouse in the delivery room.
“The labor was crazy. It was fantastic, but I just couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that that was happening,” Hewitt says. “[Brian] was the best during labor. He was a rock, never flinched. He got in there and was like, ‘I see the baby!’ I was looking at him like, ‘You should be a doula.’ I was really proud of him.”
The pair wed just a few days before Autumn was born with a simple, no-frills celebration. “It was just the two of us,” Hewitt reveals. “We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant afterwards, that was our reception. We loved it. It’s been fun to celebrate both.”
The couple rounded out the low-key affair with a visit to Bed Bath & Beyond, where they purchased a few items for their kitchen. “We’ve been through a lot already in our marriage. I’m really glad that it happened that way,” says Hewitt, who adds they are not planning a honeymoon.
And Hewitt is a working mom already. The star has designed a collection called L by Jennifer Love Hewitt, inspired by her own desire to find “cute” pregnancy clothes.
“This was something I could do [during my pregnancy] that was super creative and sending good yummy vibes to my belly. It was so beautiful to be able to put my energy [in] to making [moms-to-be] feel comfortable and special. It was really fun.”
When it comes to her post-pregnancy figure, Hewitt is taking it slow. For now, her “number one priority” is nursing — and not counting calories. “The most important thing is [Autumn] getting food,” the actress explains.
But it has taken Hewitt some time to approach shedding the pregnancy pounds at her own pace.
“Having been somebody who has had to think about what my body looked like for 25 years, it was hard when it didn’t come off. I didn’t look like some of the girls in the magazines that I’ve worked with … who [the weight] does fall off for,” she says. “I was like, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ I had to have a conversation with myself.”
Ultimately, it was the realization that she had just given birth to a daughter that shifted the new mom’s views. “I had to look at her and think, ‘Would I want her to feel this way when she’s my age?’ I was like, ‘Get it together – your head’s in the wrong place.’”
She continues, “It took nine months to get it this way, it might take nine months to get it back. If I have an hour to go to the gym or an hour to lie down and take a nap with her in my arms, I’m going to lie down and take a nap.”
Now, regaining her svelte shape has become a team effort. Hewitt is easing back into workouts with swimming and Zumba classes with baby girl by her side.
“I hold her, we do squats, we dance, she listens to the music and she loves it. Or I put her in her little chair and she watches and thinks it’s really funny,” she shares. “[Working out is] really jarring to your body. I don’t know how people go back and do CrossFit a week later. It’s just not me. I’m slowly getting back into it. I’m not that worried.”
That leaves plenty of time for bonding with her daughter. Hewitt confirms the couple didn’t find out the sex ahead of time, but she had an inkling the baby would be a girl.
“I just had a feeling,” Hewitt explains. “My mom passed away not too long before we found out that I was pregnant. So the whole time I felt like it was a gift from her, that she’d send me our relationship in a way.”
And Autumn James — whose moniker comes from Hewitt’s wish to have a “feminine first name and a masculine middle name” — is taking after her own mom already.
“She’s a hybrid [of us],” says Hewitt. “She looks like Brian from the nose up, and when she smiles, she looks like me! It’s so cute.”

We still can’t believe that Jennifer Love Hewitt and husband Brian Hallisay got married only five days before she gave birth to their daughter Autumn back in November!
“She came early!” the 35-year-old actress told us exclusively of her quickie, low-key wedding (it was just the two of them) last night. “It was just under the wire.”
So what did Hewitt wear to tie the knot while nine months pregnant? “I wore the only thing in my closet that fit me!” she laughed, adding, “Which was a really nice cotton maxi dress and that was it!”
Hewitt says she and Hallisay have no plans for a big wedding celebration in the future. “I think that was it,” the new mom smiled. “I think that it was perfect the way that it was.”
Hewitt says motherhood is going “great” and that Hallisay is an amazing father. “He’s really hands-on,” she gushed. “It’s really fifty-fifty for us. He’s a tremendous father.”
And it sounds like Hewitt and Hallisay may be expanding their family sooner rather than later! “I’d love to have another one!” she said without hesitation. “Loved the whole experience. I’d do it again tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, at lat night’s L by Jennifer Love Hewitt launch party at A Pea in the Pod, Hewitt opened up about the difficulties of dealing with one’s post-pregnancy body.
“It’s hard, it’s really hard,” Hewitt admitted. “And I wasn’t sure where I was going to fall and what was going to happen and how I was going to feel. It just feels great to sort of be honest about the fact that it is tough and these clothes make it a little easier, make me feel beautiful. I’m still in a lot of my pregnancy clothes and there is just where I feel good right now. Everything hasn’t returned back to where I want it to be and put on my other clothes and feel good about that.”
“If your priorities are right, the baby’s most important,” she went on. “You have to eat to feed to your baby. And I have a girl so I want her to see some day why her mom has good self-esteem and good body issues. It gets you down sometimes, I’m not going to lie. I’ve had days where I’m like, ‘Ugh, I wish this was easier.’ But it’s not, and that’s OK.”

It’s a party of three for Jennifer Love Hewitt!
The actress and her husband (yes, they secretly wed!), actor Brian Hallisay “are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter Autumn James Hallisay,” her rep tells PEOPLE.
Baby girl was born on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
The couple, who met on the Lifetime show The Client List, decided to keep the sex a surprise, celebrating with a gender-neutral baby shower in October.
One thing that wasn’t a surprise for the former Party of Five star was the realization that being a parent would be one of her greatest roles in life.
“I lost my mom a little less than a year and a half ago to cancer. Obviously, I got very lucky that even though I lost my mother, I lost her later in life, but it’s still had a profound effect on me,” Hewitt told PEOPLE in September.
“I’ve always wanted to be a mom,” she said. “I had a great relationship with mine. I’m ready to pass on to my child all the great love that my mom had for me.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt may be expecting her first child in December, but that doesn’t mean she’s been taking it easy. In fact, she picked up an extra project — designing a capsule collection for A Pea in the Pod maternity wear.
“Being pregnant for the first-time, I wasn’t sure exactly what pieces I was going to need at different stages. When I went to A Pea in the Pod, I gravitated toward the pieces I could wear early on in my pregnancy and that would also grow with me as my body kept changing. I no longer felt overwhelmed.” Hewitt tells PEOPLE about why she decided to team up with the line. “So with my collection, I wanted to design pieces that other moms-to-be could easily wear from the first trimester, throughout their pregnancy and even after their baby is born. It’s one less thing you have to think about or stress over while you’re preparing for or spending time with your new baby!”
So with that in mind, Hewitt created 15 pieces for her “L by Jennifer Love Hewitt” collection that are pretty classic and flexible — basic tees, printed maxis, cowlneck tops and comfy leggings. And she’s not just posing in the clothes for glam modeling shots; she’s already worn the leggings out and about.
“The leggings that have zippers on the side are my go-to piece in this collection. These are the perfect maternity item — they stretch and move with you and have that added embellishment makes you feel instantly chic,” she shares. “You can dress them up or down and feel great wearing them. I like to pair them with a tee or tunic for during the day and then I can throw on a leather jacket and booties for the night time.” (Though with just a few weeks left to go before her pregnancy, she says the maxi dresses are her go-tos — “They make me feel feminine and they are so comfortable!”)
Hewitt herself is no slouch in the maternity style department, though she admits to getting a little inspiration from Halle Berry. “She always looks chic and pulled together,” the designer says, “which proves that your pregnancy doesn’t have to compromise your personal style.”
So what’s her takeaway from her dual roles as mom-to-be and maternity designer? “Find the pieces that make you feel like you and the best and most confident version of you!” she advises. “If you invest in pieces like a maxi dress, side-ruched tees, a pair of leggings and a versatile blazer or jacket, you can mix and match all of them throughout your pregnancy.”
And, she hopes, in the months afterwards; it’s only a matter of time before we see her model them in the months after baby arrives. But you’ll have to wait until March to get your hands on the collection yourself in Pea in the Pod and select Destination Maternity stores.
The cable network is axing Jennifer Love Hewitt’s latest TV series after two seasons.
In addition to modest ratings, EW confirmed the network and the show’s studio Sony Pictures Television conflicted with Hewitt about a possible third season storyline. Hewitt wanted her real-life fiance Brian Hallisay to play the father of her character’s child on the show.
Between the second season concluding with a mere 2.1 million viewers, and Lifetime planning to bring back dramas Devious Maids, The Witches Of East End, as well as developing other shows, the network let The Client List‘s third season pickup option lapse.
